Why the downvotes? Because AI = bad?

I think the report tries to show that opensource is preferable to closed AI, as regards performance, monetary cost, and access among others.

It doesn’t mention environmental concerns, sadly. But nonetheless, at least from my understanding, good opensource models can be run by people or institutions that choose to power them responsibly, not to mention the fact that more eyes on the models mean they can be optimized for resource use faster perhaps than closed models which are incentivised to increase raw performance.

In my view, any efforts that keep AI open at all levels should be worthy of support, no?

I hope so… I’ll be in France over the winter, I sure hope I can snap one up in the time I’m there!
