Anyway, I’ve switched to Cheogram and so far it seems more reliable.

EDIT: And the only reason I use Cheogram in addition to Conversations is because I need to seperate my group chat account from the account with which I talk to friends, so that I do not miss messages. :D

Different feature sets make some solutions more useful than others.

I like that I can set my profile pic to contacts only, that I do not have to share my ID in public chats, which helps a lot against spam, that I have a protocol that’s fast and efficient, that I can see the timezone of people I’m communicating with and that components can have commands. I like using IRC via XMPP, as I don’t need a separate bouncer.

Choosing something with the right feature set is more useful than choosing something else.

Or perhaps broken DNS. For example the server only listens for IPv6 and the DNS server incoreectly replies NXDOMAIN for AAAA records, as apoarently the Mullvad DoH servers do…

Perhaps easiest is to check using xmpp-dns and see what it says. :D

All I’ve heard about OpenFire is complaints (I don’t remember specifics) and I’ve not yet got around to trying it out as my fourth server.

I wonder how well it works. Having a web interfaces to quickly configure it seems nice.

Nice seeing XMPP getting talked about more again and people setting up public servers is also great.

Though I fear the reason is the rise of US fascism for a lot of that.
