  • Platner could have won and nothing would have changed. USian politics is all kayfabe. They’re all on the same side, even if they play it up when the cameras are rolling. The Democratic Party will always have a few “defectors” to keep them from passing legislation, by design; if those representatives are replaced, someone else will fill the role. You can’t vote your way out of a corrupt system.

  • Mao, on the other hand only took up arms against Japan.

An invading and occupying imperialist force that was busily conducting war crimes. How the hell did you expect China to aid the Western front, exactly? The West was content to let Japan do whatever it wanted to the rest of East Asia so long as they didn’t attack their colonial holdings. Only then did they actually step in.

Trotting out with the damn Molotrov-Ribbentrop Pact is old hat by this point, but now you’re inventing new ways to be anticommunist. I’d almost be impressed if I weren’t so thoroughly disgusted.

Yes. I don’t mean to throw shade on all that they are doing. I just don’t think they’re coming to save us and frankly, we shouldn’t ask them to. If we can get to a point where a viable communist party is one faction of a civil war, perhaps they would render some form of aid, but we can’t depend on that. We have to be willing and able to support ourselves.

  • I still think their play is that if Trump is succeeded by another Republican or if Trump himself becomes too unpopular, they coup him, and we wind up with a military junta. The libs would be so busy applauding their ‘saviors’ that they wouldn’t even notice their rights being taken away until it’s too late. I think the capitalists are tired of democracy, and want to be able to drop the pretenses without ceding control.
